Is Freemasonry Involved In The Community?

From its earliest days, Freemasonry has been involved in charitable activities, and since its inception it has provided support for many widows and orphans of Freemasons as well as for others within the community.

All monies raised for charity are drawn from amongst Freemasons, their families and friends, while grants and donations are made to Masonic and non-Masonic charities alike. Freemasonry has an enviable record or providing regular and consistent financial support to individual charities over long periods while at the same time making thousands of grants to local charities, appeals and projects throughout Victoria and Australia each year.

When a need arises anywhere in the world, Freemasons give very generously, both at an organisational and Lodge level, and as individuals. Recent causes in this region that were well supported were East Timor, the Iran earthquake and the Tsunami disasters.

For the future, opportunities to obtain or provide matched funding are periodically examined with a view to enhancing the impact of the support Freemasonry can give to specific projects. The personal generosity of Freemasons and the collective fundraising efforts of individual lodges, however, will continue to determine the contribution Freemasonry makes within the community.

The Freemasons Task Force

Involvement in the community is not limited to financial support – time and personal effort is also a major aspect of the involvement of Freemasons in the broader community.

In Victoria, the Freemasons Task force has been formed for Freemasons and their wives and families who want to be involved in broader community projects than those already undertaken by Lodges.

A large range of activities are undertaken by the Freemasons Task Force which is part of the State of Victoria’s Emergency Services Disaster Plan, DISPLAN.
